Hi, I’m Elaina and I want to help you live life on your terms, find a career you love, and travel as often as you want.

I’ve lived, worked, and traveled to more than 60 countries, including some pretty off-the-beaten path destinations like Mongolia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Paraguay. I’ve also lived out of a suitcase as a full-time nomad for the past 4.5 years, ever since leaving my management consulting gig in New York back in 2013 when I landed an international role at a media company that sent me all over the world to work. You can read my full story here

What makes my story unique is that I’ve traveled AND built a professional career, working for companies like IBM and Uber over the years. I’ve also spent long stretches of time freelancing and traveling adventurously through South America, Asia, and Africa. I’m currently freelance writing, coaching professionals through career transitions, and working on a few small business ideas while splitting my time between Berlin, the US, and India.

I write about self-development, digital nomadism, charting unconventional life paths, finding REAL jobs overseas, pursuing long-term travel, and living more purposefully in a fast-paced, confusing world. There’s simply no one-size-fits-all model for creating a life you love. I’m not a full-time digital nomad and I’m not a full-time corporate professional: I’ve done things a bit differently and I think it’s feasible for more people to live “off the beaten path” this way. I hope my blog lets you see that it’s both possible and practical.

I started this blog because I want to help you find an exciting career, travel the world, break the norms, and develop yourself both personally and professionally. Read on or get in touch to set up a 1:1 session with me: elaina@lifebefore30.com.

Interested in Astrology? My Recommendation for an Amazing Natal Chart Reading

Posted on January 27th, 2018

As someone who’s approaching her Saturn return (this intense period of maturation and building or re-building that takes place in every human’s life between the ages of 28 and 29), I wanted to reach out and learn more about what’s happening.

The first time I had an astrological reading done, it was in southern India at a well-regarded ashram by a recommended astrologer and it was SPOT ON. I went in as a skeptic, curious to see if any of it would resonate with me, and I was blown away.

Then, over the course of the past few months and a lot of work on myself, I’ve had a few instances of being deeply and spontaneously connected to the cosmos. One night in December, I had a very small trigger pulled by a lover in Gokarna and I cried for 8 hours straight. I was up the entire night (and so was he, poor guy) bawling my eyes out, but something in me kept saying, “It isn’t about him and it isn’t even about me. This grief is from somewhere else. It’s almost like I’m crying for the entire universe.”

Two days later, still stunned by such an intense emotionally outpouring, I was flabbergasted when my best friend sent me a note from an astrologer friend of hers talking about one of the most remarkable events in 2017’s astrological calendar: a particular position of the planets Chiron and Saturn that was causing intense emotional states in the universe. And it had already happened — exactly two days prior, precisely at the time of my other-worldly explosion of grief. Unbenounced to me, I was tapped in.

I also started feeling the full moons very strongly when I was in India and began realizing that my menstrual cycle is even synced up with the moon. I start bleeding every month EXACTLY when the full moon occurs, wherever I am in the world. Considering all the time zones I frequently hop, it’s a feat that I’m this tuned in to the moon. (Many women are and just don’t realize it!)

In any case, these are just a few examples of how I started realizing that I felt a very genuine connection with astrological events and decided to get another natal chart reading done this week by a woman named Danielle Beinstein. She read my best friend’s chart last month and came very highly recommended to her from a coach she had been working with for awhile so I want to pass down the recommendation to my group of readers here. Danielle doesn’t even know I’m writing this, but her reading blew me away and was tremendously life-giving and insightful.

Whether you’re a skeptic, believer, or merely curious, I do believe there’s a reason this science has existed for thousands of years. And given the rise in people who are aware of and interested in our connection to the cosmos, it’s worthwhile to have a passing knowledge of your own chart. Personally, it’s been something I’ve enjoyed getting to know and another valuable perspective on what’s happening in my life.
