Hi, I’m Elaina and I want to help you live life on your terms, find a career you love, and travel as often as you want. These are the best years of your life and you deserve to be FREE!

I’ve lived, worked, and traveled to more than 60 countries, including some pretty off-the-beaten path destinations like Mongolia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Paraguay. I lived out of a suitcase as a full-time nomad for 5.5 years, ever since leaving my management consulting gig in New York in 2013. You can read my full story here. I’m now living my dream, settled in Bali, Indonesia, fully independent and working happily on projects that support my deepest passion!

What makes my story unique is that I’ve traveled AND built a professional career, working for companies like IBM and Uber over the years. I’ve also spent long stretches of time freelancing and traveling adventurously through South America, Asia, and Africa. I now make my living helping others break out of ordinary living and get clear on their mission in life. I get paid to help people MANIFEST THEIR DREAMS like I did — how cool is that?

I write about self-development, digital nomadism, charting unconventional life paths, finding jobs overseas, pursuing long-term travel, and living purposefully in a fast-paced, confusing world. There’s simply no one-size-fits-all model for creating a life you love. I’ve always done things a bit differently and I think there are SO many feasible ways for people to live “off the beaten path”. I hope my blog lets you see what’s both possible and practical.

I started this blog because I want to help you find an exciting career, travel the world, break the norms, and develop yourself both personally and professionally. Drop me a line at elaina@lifebefore30.com or apply to work with me directly!

If You Want To Change Your Life & Support Your True Purpose, This Is What You Have To Do

Posted on December 20th, 2018

When you think of making your way in the world doing the work that your soul knows it’s called to do (or even if you’re still figuring that part out), it may seem like all odds are stacked against you.

There is rent to pay, student debt to pay off, the pressure to own nice things, fearful family and friends who want you to live safely within the norm, other colleagues or friends who regularly update their LinkedIn with new job titles, a mass media and political system that confuses us, a widespread cultural scarcity mentality, and almost no support for people who are going through spiritual awakenings and realizing that their life can — and should (and will) — be about so much more.

When you really wake up, you feel the preciousness of the time you’ve been given to live here on Earth and the vast importance and urgency of your soul’s mission. You begin to get the sense that you’re here for something else entirely — and it’s something big. There’s a service to the world within you that we’re all waiting for (and desperately need) and it doesn’t have anything to do with being a Product Manager or Portfolio Analyst (sorry). It probably has something more to do with human well-being than the proliferation of material goods.

You finally get that. Now what? Remember, rent to pay. Anxious onlookers.

I’ve been working with people who were at the initial stages of this kind of awakening for over 5 years now. And only now am I realizing what the trends that accompany this type of experience are and what the most effective things to do in response to it are.

And I’ve come to this conclusion: You better run for your life.

See, we are profoundly intelligent and intuitive creatures, deeply spiritual beings living in a human body. Each one of us possesses the answer to every question we could ever ask. Once we remove ourselves from external confusion and stop to listen, we intuitively know who we are. We know what we came here to do. We begin to remember the mission.

The key here is: Stop and listen. End the confusion. Retreat from society immediately.

The best thing you can do to support and awaken your true life purpose is to remove yourself from mass consciousness for at least 90 days. Completely stop and retreat from everything as you know it. You have to leave your work, you have to stop hanging out with your same friends, you have to stop partying and putting toxins of the material realm into your body — you have to stop everything and give yourself space to remember who you are.

And your new life purpose, for this moment, is to guard that space with everything you’ve got.

Get rid of all distractions and any drain on your resources (time, energy, money) must be eliminated immediately. Every resource has to be put into setting up a temporary life situation in which you can put a roof over your head, feed yourself simple and healthy food, and be with yourself.

And think.

And the amazing thing about our human body is, it remembers very quickly. As soon as you give a person 3–6 months to just think for themselves, the veil falls. The confusion crumbles. Clarity, inspiration, connection — our true nature — arises. We know what we have to do.

I’ll add a side note here that I don’t mean retreating to backpack around Southeast Asia and get drunk in hostels in 5 different countries for 3 months. I’ve done that and it doesn’t work. I mean go somewhere — and it could literally be your mother’s backyard in a tent (Thoreau did basically just that when he wrote Walden) — anywhere designed by your higher Self for your higher Self. A place to nourish the part of your DNA that’s activating you into this new awareness.

This place can be a physical place, but it’s also a mental, spiritual, and psychological place. It’s a state of being you go to during these 90 days (or more).

You turn off the news. You stop watching any mass media of any kind. You stop eating mass-produced food and sugar. You stop listening to mass-produced music. You stop drinking. You turn down (off!) the volume on anything that isn’t communicating love, truth, and inner wisdom.

You stop doing what everyone else is doing because you aren’t like everyone else anymore. You never were.

You meditate, you look at the world, you listen to positive music, you meditate, you read books from uplifting authors, you cultivate a yoga practice, you examine your sexuality, your relationships, your entire approach to living and relating, you meditate some more, and you write it all down. You ask questions and you listen for the answers.

The other key here is: Start playing.

I made this all sound very serious, which it is, because this type of awakening is pretty much life and death. You’ll either come out and know how to live with an aliveness you never imagined possible or you’ll spend your life already dead, going through the motions in service of this illusion of money and material objects instead of in service to your heart and the hearts of 7 billion other people waiting for you to realize who you are and what great important work is within you. Otherwise, disease will arise in your body from not being true to your calling, from ignoring the truth, from allowing fear to win. This is what’s happening in the collective — poisoning from the contraction in the mass consciousness is occurring.

So you design your retreat with play in mind. Make sure you’re regularly doing things you love. If you’re not sure, you design it so you can try out some options and see if any of them seem fun to you. Read, write, dance, learn new things, play music, play sports, study with an expert, find mentors, find community, and follow your bliss. The things you naturally enjoy are like giant fingers pointing in the direction you need to go in. The direction your sanity and truth lies in.

The thing about this retreat from society is, contrary to the advice of many others, it’s temporary. We have to go back, but only when we’re recharged with truth and self-knowledge. It may take longer than 90 days but I know how long 3 months can seem when you’re living your life on a treadmill timeline dictated by everyone else and it seems like you’ll completely be ostracized from society and lose all hope of ever having a job again and you’ll struggle for years because of those few months.

The truth is the damn 90 days (or however long it takes) of seeking and listening will save your soul and will turn into a lifetime of being supported, from within and from without. You’ll develop such a strong connection to yourself and to the bottomless wisdom within that you’ll never be confused again.

This is a one way street of transformation and you’re not coming back. If you’re reading this, it’s already too late. You have to do the work now. You’re not like everyone else so stop acting like you are. We’re all waiting for you.
